FINCA SA PLANETA
A tiny road off the delightful old route between Sant Llorenç des Cardassar and Arta leads up to Finca Sa Planeta that can be numbered as one of the most beautiful and interesting fincas that you will come across anywhere. Up to eight people can enjoy the complete peace to be had here where the only sounds to be heard are those of sheep bells and cicadas.
The finca lies in 45,000m2 of grounds that combine areas that have been left naturally wild, cultivated land of almond and carob trees and a luxurious Mediterranean garden full of flowers, lavender beds and palm trees and even a small well. Fundamental design materials used frequently both inside and outside the house are stone, wrought iron and driftwood and are also incorporated in large and small sculptural objects. Paved pathways meander through the grounds presenting ever different perspectives or leading to still corners. Wherever a particularly lovely view is to be had, charming little seating areas have been built from where the different times of day or a particular light can be enjoyed. Time and again the curious wanderer will encounter somewhere new to sit and rest. A small grotto has been made into a bodega where a glass of good wine should be enjoyed.
The light-filled house is entered through a pretty porch with an impressive, antique, wooden door to find oneself in the spacious living/dining area with an open kitchen. Three glass doors: two in the living area and one in the kitchen lead out onto a covered terrace with a wooden dining table. The kitchen is appointed to a high standard with everything you could possibly need and there is also a laundry room with a washing machine.
To the left of the entrance and again behind a lovely antique door there is a studio with: a living area, a bedroom with built-in wardrobes and an en suite bathroom. A glass door that can be used as a separate entrance for the studio alone, leads onto a terrace with a small iron water basin.
A stairway leads up to two further bedrooms facing east and south respectively. All bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and French beds. The two bedrooms share a spacious bathroom. One of the rooms also has his own terrace with stunning views deep into the surrounding countryside. Inside the house there is almost as much to discover as outside: paintings, sculptures, objects and other interesting bits and pieces, one senses the care and interest that has been taken with everything here.
There is a large pool with a terrace for sunbathing and huge tree provides the shade for a delightful outdoor dining area with grill. Sa Planeta is an exceptional holiday abode for discriminating guests with a love for originality.
As far as the technical side is concerned: the finca has under floor heating making the house pleasant to stay in during the cooler parts of the year. Electricity is produced ecologically with photovoltaic solar panels and a generator and there is a television with satellite dish.
The village of Sant Llorenç is about 3 miles away and a 15 minute drive takes you to the fortified town of Artà with its famous church San Salvador. Every Tuesday a large market is held on its market place as well as a flea market on the first Sunday of each month and in August the main events of the fiesta held for the town’s patron saint will also take place here. Artà has its own theatre with music and cinema programmes as well as theatre. The little theatre café is also worth a visit. Apart from the daily necessities there are a number of restaurants and bars a well as art galleries and other pretty little shops offering all kinds of tempting things and many delicious local products.
