Just outside Artá, Finca Carlos stands sentinel in its 10,000m2 of completely fenced in grounds, left naturally wild, and has something of a small fortress about it. Superb views deep into the surrounding countryside and the hills of the Sierra de Llevant are to be had and the house itself lies in romantic surroundings of almond, olive and fig trees. In the finca four people have generous space for themselves and there is room for two more guests in a separate casita. The finca is being rented out for the first time this year and has a dignified and comfortable interior.

On entrance the dining area is directly ahead with seating for six and an open kitchen containing: a gas cooker, an oven a dishwasher, a microwave and a deep freeze combination as well as all the other smaller pieces of kitchen equipment that go to make life easier. The house is light and airy and from the dining area glass doors lead onto a terrace with garden furniture.

Back in the entrance area the living room is on the left. It has a fireplace and a gallery and is furnished with deep armchairs and a sofa/bed combination. On the ground floor there is a further bathroom with a shower and a guest toilet.

The upper floor is reached via a commanding staircase to the left of which is the gallery, furnished with a writing desk. Through a high window that has been let into the wall there is a direct view to Artá, the castle and the church of San Salvador. The two bedrooms are on this floor each with 150cm wide double beds. Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and access to the terrace. One of the bedrooms has an en suite with bath and shower and the bathroom downstairs belongs to the other bedroom. Most windows have mosquito protection. A further stairway leads up to a completely private, lovely little roof terrace with a stunning panoramic view.

The casita is completely independent of the main house and lies about 40m away. It has one bedroom with two beds that can either be used as a double bed or singly. The bathroom has a shower and there is a mini kitchen with a dishwasher as well as a living dining area with garden access. The Mediterranean is not far away and on clear days it can be seen on the horizon from the grounds. There is also a generous swimming pool, a private well, satellite TV and a covered parking space. Central heating makes the finca an attractive place to stay even during the cooler times of the year.

The finca is particularly suited for families that wish to go on holiday with more than one generation. Teenagers or grandparents have their own undisturbed area in the casita.

Artá itself is just over a mile away. In the pretty town a weekly market is held on Tuesdays and a flea market on the first Sunday of every month. Worth a visit is also the fiesta in honour of the town’s patron saint in August. The town’s own theatre is active and not only has theatre performances, but also concerts and cinema screenings and an attractive little café. There are good shopping facilities and plenty of restaurants, bars and cafés. In the pedestrian zone and on the side streets there are also a number of galleries and boutiques where there is plenty of possibility to spend your money on nice things from fashion accessories to local delicacies such as salt, oils and unusual vinegar combinations
